For sometime now, Nollywood actor,
Mcsmith Ochendo has been explaining why he dragged the incumbent president of
Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Ibinabo Fiberesima to court.
The dreadlock-wearing actor cum musician
said, he wants the court to interpret a particular section of the constitution
as it applies to the position of the president of the guild.
According to him, “ My interest in
all these is that I want a guild that has respect for the rule of law and the
constitution. AGN is not a private property owned by the Board of Trustees or
myself.
“The court should interpret Section
4 (u) of the amended constitution of Actors Guild of Nigeria, whether it is
lawful for an ex-convict to vie for any elective position.
“Was Ibinabo convicted at any point
in time by any court of competent jurisdiction? If the answer is in the
affirmative, which I believe it is because I have a certified copy of the true
judgment delivered by the highly revered Justice Deborah Oluyemi of the Lagos
High Court on February 20, 2009, then Ibinabo has no moral justification to
occupy such exalted position.”
However, while hearing on the case
comes up on the 18th of September 2013, at the Federal High court, Lagos,
questions are being asked today,as Ochendu alleges threat to his life regarding
the case.
